The Security Guard top-up training course is required for existing Security Guard licence holders when they renew their licences.

This means that individuals who currently hold a Security Guard licence and are due for renewal will need to complete the top-up training course. The course is designed to update their skills, provide updated counter-terrorism training, and ensure they are equipped with the knowledge and abilities to meet safety-critical requirements in their roles.

Yes, for the Security Guard top-up training, there are modules that require pre-course learning or self-study. The counterterrorism modules (ACT Awareness and ACT Security) are completed online, and you can access them through the downloads section of your account. It is mandatory to complete these modules before the training starts, and there will be an exam based on their content.

Additionally, you can download the self-study material for the ‘Minimising Personal Risk’ module. This includes a home study material and workbook provided by Highfield. You should complete the workbook on your own time, ensuring it is finished before the course begins. We recommend submitting the completed workbook at least two days prior to the course start date.

The cost to renew your SIA Security Guard licence is £184. For additional licences, a 50% discount is applied. Please visit the SIA website for the most accurate and up-to-date fee information.

On average, it takes six to eight weeks for your SIA licence application to be processed. Please ensure to check your SIA account for any updates as the SIA will notify you through messages on the platform.

If you are currently receiving benefits such as JSA or Universal Credit, it is possible that your job centre advisor can assist in arranging funding for your SIA licence application. However, it’s important to note that the availability of funding and financial support from the Job Centre is subject to individual circumstances and local policies.
