What is the Door Supervisor Refresher Course?
The Door Supervisor Refresher Course is now mandatory for SIA licence renewal. This course is specifically designed for existing SIA door supervisor licence holders who are looking to renew their badges. The aim of the course is to provide door supervisors with the necessary skills and knowledge to perform their duties safely and effectively.
This short Refresher course covers a range of topics, including emergency procedures, communication skills, and conflict management. It is the new top up course, and from 1st April 2025, it has become a mandatory requirement.

The course covers two units:
Principles of Working as a Door Supervisor in the Private Security Industry (Refresher)
Application of Physical Intervention Skills in the Private Security Industry (Refresher)

How Long is the Door Supervisor Refresher Course and What are the Entry Requirements?
The course is delivered over two full days, with class timings from 9 am to 6:45 pm. To be eligible for the course, candidates must meet the following entry requirements:
- Must be aged 18 and over.
- Must have sufficient reading, writing, speaking, and listening language skills to communicate clearly and effectively.
First Aid Requirement:
Do I need to have a First Aid Certificate for the Door Supervisor Refresher Course?
It is an SIA requirement that each learner is sufficiently qualified in first aid. This course includes an Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) qualification, which meets this requirement.
Assessment
How is the Door Supervisor Top Up Course Assessed?
The Door Supervisor Refresher course is assessed through a combination of multiple-choice examinations and practical demonstrations. The qualification consists of two units, each with its own assessment.
The pass mark for the multiple-choice exams is 71% for the ‘Principles of Working as a Door Supervisor’ unit and 80% for the ‘Application of Physical Intervention Skills’ unit. Practical assessments include an observation of using communications devices and a full one-on-one demonstration of every physical intervention technique, which is video recorded.
The duration of the exams is between 45 and 55 minutes, and the main practical skills test is recommended to take approximately 15 minutes.

What Will I Receive After Successful Completion?
Upon successful completion, you will receive a Highfield Award for Door Supervisors in the Private Security Industry (Refresher) (Scotland). This qualification is awarded by Highfield, the UK’s leading provider , and is regulated by the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA).
It is fully supported by the Security Industry Authority (SIA) and is the qualification you need to renew your SIA Door Supervisor licence

This course is for existing Door Supervisors who need to renew their SIA licence. It updates your skills with the latest industry standards, covering topics like terror threat awareness , searching procedures , physical intervention , and safeguarding vulnerable people.
To be eligible for our Glasgow course, you must be 18 or over and already hold a Door Supervisor SIA licence. You must also provide a valid First Aid certificate with at least 12 months of validity remaining from the course start date. Finally, you must have English language skills equivalent to a B2 level.
Yes, the SIA requires all door supervisors to hold a valid first aid qualification. You must complete your Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) training and receive your certificate before starting the security part of the course. Our training package includes the EFAW qualification to ensure you meet this requirement.

The qualification allows you to renew your SIA licence, which is valid for three years. To renew it again in the future, you will need to take the required refresher course at that time.
