Assessment

How is the EFAW Course Assessed?

The EFAW course is delivered in a classroom setting, allowing for a practical, hands-on approach to learning. The Emergency First Aid at Work qualification is assessed through two key components:

1. Practical Assessment: This is an ongoing evaluation conducted throughout the course, where learners must demonstrate their practical first aid skills.

2. Centre-Marked Multiple-Choice Theory Assessment: Learners must successfully complete a 15-question multiple-choice theory paper. A minimum of 25 minutes is allocated for this. To pass, a minimum score of 70% (11 out of 15 questions correct) is required. If learners do not meet this threshold, additional oral questioning may be used to assess their understanding.

Certification

Upon successful completion of the EFAW course, participants will receive an Highfield Award in Emergency First Aid at Work (SCQF Level 6). This course meets the requirements specified by the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981.

The qualification remains valid for a period of 3 years, after which point learners will need to retake the course. Additionally, it is recommended that learners refresh their knowledge annually.
