How Long is the Security Guard Course and What are the Entry Requirements?
The Security Guard Course is a classroom-based training program delivered over four full days. The class timings are from 9 am to 6 pm. To be eligible for the course, learners must meet the following entry requirements:
- Must be aged 18 and over.
- Must possess sufficient reading, writing, speaking, and listening language skills to communicate clearly and effectively.
First Aid Requirement:
Do I need to have a First Aid Certificate for the Security Guard Course?
It is a requirement by the SIA that learners have a current and valid First Aid or Emergency First Aid certificate. The certificate must be valid for at least 12 months from the course start date. If learners do not have a first aid qualification, they can book the training with us through the first aid training section.
Assessment
How is the Security Guard Course Assessed?
The Security Guard course includes both multiple-choice exams and practical assessments. It is divided into three units, each with its own assessment method. To pass the course, learners must score at least 70% in all three modules and successfully complete the practical assessment, which is visually recorded.
The practical assessment typically takes around 20 minutes per learner.

What Qualification Will I Receive After Successful Completion?
Upon successful completion of the Security Officer Course, learners will receive a Highfield Award for Security Officers in the Private Security Industry (Scotland) at SCQF Level 6.
This qualification is recognized and supported by the Security Industry Authority (SIA). Successful candidates can then apply for an SIA Security Guard Licence, enabling them to work as qualified Security Guards throughout the United Kingdom.
